My name is Enes Kemal. I'm a computational biologist and bioinformatician — I recently completed my PhD in Bioinformatics at UBC, and I now work as a Staff Bioinformatician in the Lange Lab at BC Children's Hospital Research Institute.
My research centers on proteomics and pediatric cancer. What draws me to this work is how meaningful it is — developing rigorous computational methods for childhood cancer research is both scientifically rich and genuinely impactful. My doctoral work focused on proteoform-level analysis in bottom-up mass spectrometry data: building statistical frameworks for equivalence testing, improving peptide-level quantification, and identifying dysregulated proteoforms in pediatric tumours.
I also love building things. Whether it's a full proteomics analysis platform or a fast FASTA indexer in Zig, I care about performance, clean design, and tools that scientists actually want to use. That blend of rigorous research and a builder's mindset is what keeps me going.
